Grow Your Own Potatoes Project Expands to Northern Ireland

New sponsorship means we can now supply schools in Northern Ireland.

we are excited to launch a pilot project for schools in Northern Ireland in 2024.

Due to Brexit rules prohibiting seed potatoes being sent to Northern Ireland from Scotland, primary school pupils there have been unfortunately excluded from this project.  However we now have exciting news!  We have located a Seed Potato supplier in Northern Ireland who is extremely keen to get this going and will send the packs to schools there.

In partnership with McCreight Potatoes Ltd from Co Down and with generous sponsorship through Natural World Products we have a limited number of free potato growing kits available for primary schools across Northern Ireland but timings are tight so you need to act NOW. Read more about this partnership.

Your pack will contain all the information that our usual kits have, with the exception that the potato varieties will be different.  We ask that you provide feedback which will hopefully shape the success and future rollout in 2025.

What is included in the pack?

Each pack will have 7 seed potatoes.  You will plant 6 and use the remaining one for our great experiment.

You will need a container, soil and optional gardening gloves for the children.

Full instructions are included and you will be able to refer to our huge resource bank here. You will also receive timely email updates throughout the project.

Please visit our sponsor page to learn more about the companies who have made GYOP 24 possible.

2024 is the 80th anniversary of D-Day and we have gone retro to commemorate this occasion.  Potato Pete is here to help your class lean about WWII and potatoes.

Not sure about this project?

The project comes with lots of resources and information.  If you are not sure about it, we go over the huge benefits to the pupils on this page.

Pilot Scheme for Northern Ireland

We hope that this pilot scheme will be extended across northern Ireland for 2025.  Feedback will be appreciated, whether you received a kit or not as we will be evaluating this with our sponsors over the summer.

Sorry, registrations have closed for Northern Ireland Grow Your Own Potatoes for 2024.

We cannot consider any late entries, even if it is "just by a day or two" as the packs are being processed and labels generated.  Adding any extra at this point creates an incredible amount of work, whether that is for one, 20 or 100 extra packs.  Please don't email or call to ask!

We have grow bags for sale  but unfortunately due to Brexit, we cannot send you any extra kits if you have missed out as these come from Scotland.  But please consider buying your own seed potatoes and signing up for our newsletter and dipping into our resources.

We hope that this pilot scheme will be successful and that we will be able to roll it out across Northern Ireland for 2025.
