Great hand-picked selection to get children interested in growing potatoes complete with a fascinating experiment and a huge educational resource bank.
We have picked two varieties for their disease resistance, and general appearance*. We have gone for earlies which will be ready within around 100 days and so the enthusiasm of the children will hopefully still be there. Varieties will change according to availability and will be of the same standard as our GYOP packs that we send out to schools
Contents 2 nets: 4 tubers of one variety and 3 of a different varity*. 7 tubers in total. Bags are optional extras. Accessories are not included. Compost is not included.
We have a great experiment for you to do with your children the extra tuber
We want children to be excited about different colours and textures, and the pack will have a red-skinned vareity.

20% of the purchase price of these packs will go towards Grow Your Own Potatoes (GYOP)
This pack mimics the packs that are sent out to schools via the Grow Your Own Potatoes project of which we are proud sponsors. GYOP has an incredible amount of information for growing potatoes with children along with projects – and in particular a project for the extra tuber – Beneath the Soil.
This tuber can be planted as normal, if you do not want to do this interesting experiment.

Potatoes are easy to grow and children love the aliens coming from the potato when chitting. If you do chit you can leave the children alone in the kitchen and tell them it is a very important job – the tubers need to be put in size order going up then going down….labels need to be made, pictures drawn – this can take hours and shouldn’t be rushed! They have to shout “Chits Away” very loudly and often. (Following us for child care advice is optional).
See tabs below for details about the bags. Please join the GYOP newsletter to get timely information about this project – see button the right.

Delivery Information
We will dispatch all items at around the same time as the GYOP kits
Items ordered from here will arrive in one delivery, but will be separate from the GYOP kits
All orders will be dispatched in February and you will get a email when this happens. It will then will take 4-5 days to get to you. This can be longer especially if we have any industrial action or frost.
Any orders placed after the main dispatch date will be processed within 3 days.
If you would prefer that your items arrive at a different time (dispatch on the week that you would like), or would like more choice, please order from Potato House directly (external link).
After delivery it is YOUR responsibility to store the seed potatoes in the correct manner. Seed Potatoes are a natural product and will deteriorate if not stored correctly. There is information on the GYOP site on how to Grow Your Own Potatoes. Please note that some of the varieties in different patio packs may require longer to mature.
For the vast majority of orders, we do not charge a surcharge for Scottish Highlands and Islands and other remote areas. However, we reserve the right to contact you if we can't get a viable rate. Unfortunately, for large or extremely remote orders, it is likely that we will need to pass on some haulage charge.
Unfortunately due to Brexit we are prohibited to send seed potatoes to Northern Ireland.
For Isle of Man dlievery is free up to 5kg.
For the Channel Islands we have a surcharge for delivery.
If you wish to pick up we offer a 15% discount. By default, this option will only appear for local postcodes. If yours doesn’t appear, use our postcode DD3 0QN in the “Deliver to Address”. You need to select local pick up and also put code Pickup in the coupon box. Also to help us, put “pick up” in the “deliver to address”. Note that your order will still be prepared for February. We will contact you when your order is ready. We operate on a working farm with machinery, vehicles and livestock and so please keep children and pets inside your car when picking up. This is only available for orders up to £50 – if you wish to pick up a larger order, please contact us prior to ordering.

If we get a parcel returned to us due to wrong details we will charge you postage to re-send. Please check the details on your confirmation note and inform us immediately of any mistakes. Small typos are easy to do!
All products ordered will be sent together in the same delivery. Bulk discounts are only available for the same order.
During times of frost or low temperatures deliveries will be held back until more favourable conditions prevail and we will inform customers of any delays over social media and on our website. Some deliveries may be delayed if we have to re- stock our nets.
RHS Award of Garden Merit

RHS Award of Garden Merit.
This potato variety has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM), by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant. For more information on RHS Award of Garden Merit plants visit .rhs.org.uk/plants. To see the potatoes in the list, click on LISTS half way down this page, then scroll to potatoes
What is the AGM?
With more than 75,000 plants available in RHS Plant Finder alone, how can you tell which plants are best for all-round garden value? The AGM is intended to help gardeners make that choice, and is only awarded to plants that are:
- excellent for ordinary use in appropriate conditions*
- available
- of good constitution
- essentially stable in form and colour
- reasonably resistant to pests and diseases
We are delighted that so many of the varieties that we grow and supply have gained this prestigious award. If you think other varieties should have this award, or have any comments please contact them directly.

Made from Up to 70% Recycled Materials
Weaving top quality, re-useable Polypropylene fabric (PP) requires high-quality raw material – so much as we would like to have all our sacks & bags using 100% recycled PP, it’s counter-productive in terms of performance & durability.
Our supplier uses a minimum of 5% Recycled plastic in all our sacks & are working hard to increase this to 30% by 1st April 2022, therefore reducing plastic waste & bringing cost benefits by avoiding new Tax legislation which applies £200/tonne to all plastic packaging with under 30% recycled content.
Sustainability
At the end of their life span, they can still be recycled to make things like plastic buckets, garden furniture or pallets! Why not consider the benefits of paying a little more for bags which can be re-used & recycled – it benefits the environment & is often far more cost-effective.

How to grow potatoes in these bags:
Fill about 2/3 of the way up with compost/soil (not included), put 3 tubers in each bag and cover with soil. When the plant emerges, cover with soil and repeat this a couple of times. This encourages downward growth.
